Josef Kote: In the Presence of Light

Imagine a lighthouse standing quietly, emitting a steady light to guide others home without seeking attention or questioning its value. It simply performs its duty, night after night, season after season, regardless of whether anyone notices. Think of yourself as that lighthouse, shining brightly enough to help many find their way. This concept has inspired me both personally and professionally. Being a lighthouse isn’t about chasing the spotlight; it’s about remaining steady in your own light. It’s about showing up, even when faced with storms.

In my studio, I see painting as a practice rooted in presence and illumination. Over time, consistent practice has brought gentle yet meaningful change, like a soft breeze of transformation. This shift makes me feel lighter and freer, and my latest work reflects this growth, shaped by my experiences, dedication, and inner reflections. I’m grateful to continue this journey and to share what I’ve learned: that true art isn’t made to impress, but to illuminate.

I chose the title 'In the Presence of Light' because I feel that light does so much more than what we see; it’s a beautiful and powerful force that can truly transform us. It gently heals us, encourages us to reflect, and helps create meaningful, divine connections that often speak to us more deeply than words ever could. Being in the presence of light means opening ourselves to its endless possibilities, clarity, and the comforting reassurance it offers. — Josef Kote
